The series wasn't well received in Germany, so there's not likely to be a sequel unless oversea sales make it viable, so we'll maybe never know.
(It was a German made series about the cold war set in 1983 and shown n Channel 4. It finished last Sunday)

Although losing half its German TV audience by the end of its run, 'Deutschland 83' has recently won the award for Best German Miniseries at the Goldene Kamera (Germany's equivalent to the BAFTAs) and in any event has elicited critical (and viewer) acclaim in international markets including the US, where it actually aired on SundanceTV before being shown in Germany.
The show creators have spoken of their vision for two sequels to span events leading to the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall. It is a distinct possibility that 'Deutschland 86' will receive a green light for production and that 'Deutschland 89' follows on its heels.

We thought Deutschland 83 was the best thing on TV. Absolutely brilliant and we loved the ambiguous ending. could have been either of them ... but the speculation that it was the son because of his AIDs infection was pretty good. The main guy (Moritz) was brilliant and just looked totally bewildered most of the time. Marvellous programme, cannot recommend it more highly!
