Does anybody know what would happen to the legitimate Europeans who came to Britain, opened businesses, paid their taxes, employed people and bought property etc. if there is an Exit vote ?

It's the club you join and can never leave :-) I'm hoping it's a close run to the end = weak pound Weak pound = better for me sending money back to uk from Switzerland. The vote will however go Stay In. Too many unknowns if we leave , plus the EU would collapse without us and our biggest trading partners

My husband has lived here in the UK for over forty years and has payed his way .I can't really see him being chucked out of the UK no more than expats will forced to return to the UK from other EU countries.
Total scaremongering.
In the event of an out vote it would take them donkeys years to sort out the red tape anyway.
They could make life difficult I suppose by going back to old residency permits etc but we'll cross that bridge if and when it comes to it .
Btw I'm voting in :)

Once the illegal immigrant issue is sorted I expect we will have plenty of room for legitimate, working, contributing migrants, just like we always have. Just a thought mikey, if the vote was out but say, Wales gained independence at some point. Do you think we would get kicked out. Daft I know.(but you started it)
I can't see a big problem for legitimate migrants here in the UK; equally I can't see a big problem for UK nationals living in France etc.. There are more French people living in London than there are Brits in France. There would be an arrangement (the French are a very practical people). Worry not Samuraisan. :)
I dont think it is decided
and it probably hasnt crossed the minds of any of our thinkers and masters
The status quo ante would be - they revert to aliens
there would be no point in saying they can stay
as then that would be negating Brexit ....
o what a stupid nightmare
you would vote to deprive people of their rights
and then having done so - you wonder if you really want to do that ....

I can tell you all
with two immigrant parents years and years ago
whenever there was a change in british nationality laws
I had to scrutinise the bill to see if they were affected
( affected as in made more welcome - er I dont think so )
and a few of my southern african relations have missed the naturalisation boat thro their own delay ....
In sept 1939 my father altho he would now be an alien was welcomed with open arms to fight for King George .....
