When you close your eyes at night...

Appart from the "blackness" what else do you 'see'?

I'm only curious because one night I was dozing off to sleep and I told my girlfriend that I could see sort of white star like dots appear every now and then, and then mentioning the whole black to grey closing circles.

She told me that when she closes her eyes after about half a minute she sees what appears to be red topped pins falling down.

I'm curious as to what other people see when they close their eyes at night? (avoid mentioning the blackness please)

I get the white star like dots too - tho not sure what they are meant to be.

i have also had that experience. sometimes i see stars flying around me in clusters.

when i close my eyes to sleep, if i pay attention i sometimes see dots of light.

yeah I get dull coloured lights, very dim but definately there.

speckles of blue and if i am lying face down or have rubbed my eyes its fractals

you can have a firework/psychedelia display if you apply slight pressure to your closed eyeballs in the dark

Great question!

Mostly I see faint sparkly pinpoints of different coloured light. Sometimes - and perhaps it's my mind seeing this rather than eyes - I can see swirling psychadelic patterns of colours. These swirl about, sometimes forming into crude imges (just by fluke) and then move on to something else (like clouds do).

Incidentally, all the colours are sort of 'black' colours. A reddy-black, a bluey-black etc.

I thought the "firework" display was due to pressure on the eyes, thanks joko for confirming it, only mine are inverse fireworks.
