Iburofen Or Opiates?

Sqad; I'm in quite a bit of post-op. pain, taking 600mg ibuprofen 3 x per day.
Doctor has today given me as a possible replacement some opiates - German name 'Tilidin comp. STADA' (working ingredients Tilidinhydrochrid and Naloxononhydrochrorid).

Never taken opiates before and not sure whether to take them or stick with the pain and the tablets I know. Are they not a form of heroin?

Does anyone else have experience of using opiates?

Probably just a mild opiate. like codeine or Tramadol, which I take.

OK......as you say Tilidin is an opiate and no I have not taken them personally.

You don't say what operation you have had.

Personally i would take Ibuprofen 600mgms every 6 hours.........but that is me.

You will be the best judge Khandro, but don't be afraid of the Tilidin.

had to take opiates (morphine which disagreed with me, then oxy something or other) for about 3 months.
Killed the pain - and after switching from morphine no side effects - not qite true - constipation!

Thanks Sqad, your advice corresponds to what I was intuitively thinking - (hence the question). I'll keep the Tilidin as an insurance, and stick with the Ibuprofin, upping it one tablet to 4.

Khandro, as someone with quite a lot of knowledge of personal use of painkillers, I find ibuprofen works better if taken with paracetamol, and vice versa (no more than 2 every 4 hours)

A useful alternative, although on a personal note, I am not keen on analgesic combinations, but to be fair I am in the minority of medics here.

So what is the suggestion; instead of 600mg Ibu. - a 300mg Ibu. and 300mg para. dose combination, or what?

I would say 400 mg Ibuprofen plus 1000 mg Paracetamol, but I stand to be corrected.

ibuprofen (400 mg three times a day);

paracetamol (1000 mg three times a day);

one fixed-dose combination tablet (ibuprofen 200 mg/paracetamol 500 mg (low-dose) three times a day);

two fixed-dose combination tablets (ibuprofen 400 mg/paracetamol 1000 mg (high-dose) three times a day).

LOL...that is what i have against multi pharmacology in one tablet in that you cannot control how much one is taking, but of course you can if taken separately.

Also, if one has side effects..e.g constipation, diarrhea and skin rashes, one only has a 50/50 chance of catching the culprit.

However, try any of the combinations given above.

Khandro, I am getting by with 2 x 500mg of paracetamol and 2 x 200mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours (plus a 5ml spoon of Oxynorm, an opiate)
If you are going to be using ibuprofen long-ish term, you should really protect your stomach with Lanzoprazole or similar

For that extra kick substitute co-codamol for paracetamol.

Reye's Syndrome in kids....( so they say)

Stomach ulceration and bleeds in adults.

Liver problems...in adults after long term use.
