Menopause And Hrt
5 Answers
Hi all, my GP has told me I am going through the menopause (I already had an idea). She has put me on Fluoxetine for my low mood which are working really well and Elleste Duet Conti HRT tablets. I have not had a period for nearly 12 months but since starting the HRT tablets (4 weeks ago) I started a period a week ago and it is not showing any signs of stopping yet. I rang my GP today and advised her of this and she just told me to stop taking the HRT tablets and make an appointment to see them in 6 weeks. Does anyone have any ideas whether this particular HRT tablet can cause bleeding. Thanks.

I have stopped the HRT tablets today. I will see how I go on without them. They were for the night sweats and hot flushes really and they did seem to be working but I am worried that this period has started.
Don't know about this particular tablet, sorry. My general advice would be to grab anything you can get. I've always had horrible hormone problems and in the early 2000s embraced any HRT gratefully. Then a report wittered on about raised cancer risk and after 3 happy years it was withdrawn. 6 years of HELL ensued (lying in bed all day shaking, shivering and then drenching with sweats etc., don't even mention mood swings!) I am now 66 and still suffering symptoms (started aged 50).
I also had slight blood loss for a while, it can happen, my best guess is that your own hormones surge or something....not a medic. I should relax about it, see your GP and discuss it. :)
