Gym Wear For Men

My husband has just joined gym - hooray for im. He is a forty something bloke, a couple of stone overweight. He plans to do some cardio stuff, plus some weights. What sort of thing should a non-beefcake regular bloke be wearing to the gym?

Agree with Quizproquo, but make sure the T-shirt is breathable so he doesn't get too hot and sweaty.
