watching sliders season 1 - episode five and they're all wearing the hippy clothes that they were wearing at the start of episode four. how does that work? did they mix up the original order of the shows or something? see, now its just finished with them facing a tidal wave, where episode four started with them hanging onto a rooftop on waterworld-like world. confused!!!

Yes, episode 5 was made before episode 4, but the network switched them around for transmission.

Episode 6 was actually made first, after the pilot episode.
