Why Do We Still Carry Coffins Into Church?

Was at a funeral today and watched the pallbearers' carrying the coffin in. As someone that has a back issue it made me twinge. Why in this day of health and safety does this continue?

I am sure they do DB, and like my ex job (NHS working in elderly care) if you didn’t laugh you’d break.

there was a recent episode of Doctors where Valerie was testing out undertakers...she ended up attending an undertakers funeral and they were all doing undertaker humour and cracker jokes...very funny and somehow touching too.
Naomi, I know it does seem like that. We like to think that my grandad would have found it amusing in a weird way. Well, that's what my granny said, anyway. [With respects to the man who died, obviously.]
