Press F8 on start up and go into Advanced Start Up options then Windows Repair mode.

However you dont bother to tell us the release of Windows so we have no idea if that will work.

Soz forgot to say it's on Win 10.
Pressing F8 doesn't help, as the screen just stays black :(
Does it work if you plug it into your TV? If so it is probably the LCD Screen or Inverter that needs replacing.

I don't know your particular laptop but all the ones I've used have a light that shows disk activity; is the light flickering, on steadily or off? If the light is on or flickering it implies that the computer is trying to do something.
It might sound silly but have you turned off the display inadvertently? Usually one of the keys on the top row of the keyboard in conjunction with the "fn" key does this. You might even have turned down the brightness to zero, again with a function key.
Having looked up the spec for your laptop I see that it has a DVD drive. If you have any sort of repair disk you could try putting that in and re-booting; you might be lucky.
could try taking battery out for 5 mins ,try it again,it might work worth a go

Just tried connecting it to the TV - nothing, still a black screen (I know I'm connecting it correctly, 'cos I connected mine to it).
Tried taking battery out and replacing it - made no difference.
There are lights coming on when it powers up, but there doesn't appear to be any disc activity .... I'm sure you can usually hear a whirring noise as the hard drive is being accessed, but I can hear nothing :(
It says in a review that I found that it comes with a Windows 8 recovery DVD. Try putting that in the DVD reader and re-booting.

Thanks for that - I'll ask the missus, when she gets home, if she knows where the disc is .... I'll let you know the outcome :)
Unplug power lead, take battery out. Press power button and keep it pressed for about 1 minute. Take finger off button, put power lead back in and try powering it up again.
Question Author
Funnily enough - someone else suggested the same thing last night. We tried it and it made no difference.
Someone also suggested changing the RAM ... the missus has taken the laptop to her work today, as a tech guy has said he'll have a look at it :)
Question Author
Well, fingers crossed, changing one of the RAM sticks has fixed it.
The laptop has been left at work to make sure it's ok.
Thanks for all the advice peeps .... problem hopefully sorted now :)
Thanks for that Giz, it's not something I would have thought of.
