Can I Sell Surplus Cigarettes Now I've Given Up Smoking ?

Hi,
I've given up smoking but had already bought a pack of 200 and have another 80. I'm loathe to "bin" them as it's over £100 worth, but don't want the temptation of having them in the house. I've asked at work and waiting to hear back from a couple of people but Silk Cut 100s aren't the most popular brand, often being described as "straws" by smokers, so is there somewhere I can sell them ? Don't particularly want to trawl pubs !

Corner shop. They typically make 5% low margin so you shouldn't have to drop much below retail to give them a good deal.

I think it is illegal to sell cigarettes that you have brough back from somewhere as part of your personal allowance. You can give them as a gift but not sell them. If it was me, I would just ask around and put the word around that you have some to sell and see what happens.

Tried at a couple of small local shops, one said their packs are stamped with the price in the packaging so couldn't take them, the other didn't sell the 100s.
FrillyPancake, not sure cigarettes can be sold like that, hence my question, but I'll give Gumtree a go ...

Cigarette advertising is banned , so you can't advertise them even on a card in a shop window or Gumtree .
( they will or should refuse to accept the advert anyway.) You are going to just ask friends to pass the word around or ask people in the pub smoking area!

Ratter and others ALL TOBACCO ADVERTS ARE BANNED ! no matter where or how you advertise them! Not even a card in a shop advert board is allowed.
Facebook, eBay, gum-tree , newspaper small ads are all banned from advertising tobacco products. eBay will only allow ads even for e cigs if they are classified as 'quitting smoking'.

Cw1 - ok. Doky. If this were me, and your ciggies arent sold yet i had a thought on it....i would take down my local boozer and ask the locals......there are a lot of amokers in our pub, leave behind the bar there and ask the nice barmaid/man to put the money into a jar for you per packet......i also work at my local and would be happy to do that as a favour for someone. Hope this helps u out.

Tried 2 local Facebook buy & sell groups, 1 was removed but not before someone was tagged (& I have the e-mail with the tagged name so *could* approach them I guess), the other had a like & is still there. Also tried another shop but he said he doesn't buy from someone just going in, fair enough, especially after I realised how it sounded - basically as though I'd nicked'em !

Not a bad idea, FrillyPancake, might try that when I get a chance. My sis-in-law works in a pub too (though not local to me) so could ask her too.
I'm de-TER-mined not to smoke'em !

Eddie. I'm aware of the laws but on FB. I dont think anybody is going to sorry too much about a couple hundred fags. I still think that's the best bet. If the add gets removed. so be it!

Most of my friends either don't smoke or smoke roll ups. I don't actually know anyone who smokes Silk Cut as their usual brand, they're probably one of the most expensive & (as in my op) aren't a favourite as they're quite mild.

I think you will have to sell them for a loss. People are used to paying for duty free cigs and tobacco when second hand, and the market is fairly established.
If you took the 280 out and are open to offers yoy could get rid.
