Talk Talk Spammers

I've been inundated with Indian callers saying they are from talk talk and want to fix my computer.
I had four calls yesterday and three today. When the last one rang I told him to remove my number from their listing as this was the seventh call in two days.
He just said F*** You and hung up.
I have tried to report to TPS but there was nowhere to enter the phone numbers so how does the TPS know what to do.
What he said shocked me so much, it was on my mind for a long time.

Contact talk talk Caran and explain what happened. If it's not them they'll want to sort it pretty quick I would think.

Not much TPS can do with foreign callers sadly.

I managed to retrieve five of the numbers and they are all different.
My phone lets me block foreign calls, but is saying my blocked bin is full so that's why they are getting through.
Talk talk had a lot of their data stolen not long ago.
If it isn't talk talk and just spammers pretending to be them what could talk talk do?

It won't be TalkTalk, so there's nothing they could do.

TPS can only deal with UK based calls, so they are helpless.

When I get them I don't even speak. As soon as I realise it is a call I don't want I ring off.

I suggest you do the same.

As the calls specifically refer to TalkTalk then (assuming that TT is actually your ISP anyway) it seems likely that you're one of the 156,959 customers who had their data stolen:

I can't see that TalkTalk could do anything other than continue to regularly warn all their customers, just as there is nothing Microsft can do to stop Windows scammers or HMRC can do to stop email scams

I say I'll get the boss, and leave the phone to sit whilst turning the radio up right next to it, to all such calls

This is a scam to get bank details from you in return for "fixing" your computer for a fee. There is of course nothing wrong with your computer. Sometimes the caller claims to be from Microsoft.
Was the number withheld? I have an arrangement with TalkTalk such that any incoming call with no. withheld is diverted to a message machine which states that withheld no's will not be put through. This filters out a lot of nuisance calls. Also, I am ex-directory and only give my number out to "safe" contacts. I am also registered with TPS.
I am sorry you're upset, but comfort yourself with the fact that you haven't given any bank details.

That's why I ring off before getting into conversation.

The alternative is to hold the phone up to your smoke detector and press 'test'.

ive had the same but from different companies i was so fed up of them one day i played along and gave his bank details of a mrs Mouse , made up numbers as i went along it took a few minutes for the penny to drop but when he realised he swore and cut me off bit childish i know but i did find it hilarious

Next time you get a call like that, tell them your computer is a Mac.

Get an answerphone and only pick up if you recognise the call. In my experience, most (if not all) scammer calls hang up half-way through the answerphone's response anyway.

Hopkirk, you can be prosecuted for "whistling" or "screaming" down the phone if you cause acoustic shock. I wouldn't recommend Hopkirk's advice unless you fancy an assault charge Caran.

I don't know why people get upset at this. The answer is, "Not today, thank you" - replace handset.

It's not nice Caran, when a complete stranger says horrid things like that on YOUR telephone.

Take the view that because he said "**** you", you had annoyed him and had annoyed him far more than he had annoyed you. That call had cost him money and time.

I take it as a matter of personal pride if I can get them to call me names. Last week one called me a "female dog" and told me to F off. I was laughing for ages. (Mind you, I had kept him holding for several minutes whilst I "booted up" my computer, and then several minutes more whilst it wouldn't respond and then several minutes whilst I tried to understand him).

Even funnier, a friend of mine had one call her back to ask "are you insane?". Class.

Is a scammer in a foreign country really going to go to court?

By the way I have never done it, but the thought makes me giggle.
