Anonymous On-Line Activists Declare War On Isis.

I've heard on news programmes that ISIS have a very slick on-line presence. It's used for propaganda, recruiting, and the like.
Why should it be up to a group of 'activists' to take them on?

It shouldn't be up to vigilantes but we're unlikely to hear any details of what the security services are doing. This isn't the first time that Anonymous have declared war on ISIS e.g after the Charlie Hebdo shooting over a year ago https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_(group)#Charlie_Hebdo_shootings . Have they managed anything other than some minor or short-lived inconveniences?

The conventional security services might prefer that some of those sites are left online because:
(a) they'll be monitoring them for indications of where the next terrorist targets are most likely to be ; and
(b) they'll be seeking to infiltrate terrorist networks through them by pretending to be terrorist sympathisers themselves.

So Anonymous could actually be harming counter-terrorism activities by attacking such websites.

How do we know that Anonymous,in their heroic acts of self aggrandisement, are not screwing up the long standing efforts of international security monitoring stations i.e. GCHQ. By interfereing with on-line communications by jamming or whatever they could well be causing more harm than good.
This group is nothing but a group of trouble makers.


Anons have publicly supported WikiLeaks and the Occupy movement. Related groups LulzSec and Operation AntiSec carried out cyberattacks on US government agencies, media, video game companies, military contractors, military personnel, and police officers, resulting in the attention of law enforcement to the groups' activities. Some actions by the group have been described as being anti-Zionist. It has threatened to cyber-attack Israel and engaged in the "#OpIsrael" cyber-attacks of Israeli websites on Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) in 2013.[8]

I'd guess they'd have the ability to launch on-line attacks similar to those mounted against bookmakers a few years ago by blackmailers.
But maybe that wouldn't be the best course of action.

Twitter postings will reveal geotags accurately giving away ISIS positions. Helpful when planning airstrikes. Cutting Twitter accounts could make targetting harder.

There was an article the other day regarding Anonymous and their supposed targetting of Isil. Pretty much the entire volume of information they released was on general access on the web so where are these much vaunted hacking skills.
