A friend has this and when he tries to watch something he has recorded he occasionally gets the message "This channel is scrambled or unavailable".

Google refuses to accept that there's a Humax Fox T1. (It only seems to know about the T2).
However the possible reasons for the message are as follows:
(a) the signal actually is encrypted (as with some 'adult' channels transmitted alongside Freeview) ;
(b) the station is transmitted via an HD multiplex but the Humax box is 'SD only'. (Confusingly, you need HD equipment to receive some SD channels, such as Rishtey, Talking Pictures and Viva, because they're transmitted using HD protocols) ;
(c) the station is off the air or the transmitter is operating on reduced power ; or
(d) by FAR the most likely! : the Humax box isn't receiving an adequate signal from the aerial. The incoming signal strength doesn't remain constant and all aerials are better at receiving some stations than others. (For a lot more detail, please refer to my post here: http:// www.the answerb ank.co. uk/Tech nology/ Questio n144710 1.html ). A simple signal amplifier, for about a tenner from most large supermarkets, should fix the problem.
