and Cortana. Please can you help me stop it appearing in left side every few minutes asking me what it can help me with? Tis driving me mad(der) :-(

Ask cortana. It wants to help.

Click the "Search" icon (magnifying glass) bottom left.

Click the "Settings" icon (gear/cog symbol) left side.

Toggle Cortana switch to "Off".

Just thought, if you've not got the "Search" icon on your taskbar, click the Windows icon, click "Settings", enter Cortana in the search box top right & click "Cortana & Search Settings" to get to the "On/Off" toggle.

Pop-ups for what - Cortana? The switch in Settings is definitely "Off", yes?

I've never had a use for it so if that didn't fix it, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for someone with more know-how, sorry Baths...
