According to the hubby, there should be wear indicators on the tyres themselves.
They are in the grooves of the tread, there should be a raised dimple about 5mm long, when this is flush with the foot of the tyre, they need replacing. Also check side walls for cracking and unven tread wear.
I hope this makes sense, as it doesn't to me, but I'm used to that!
Polotoo
oh yeah, sorry Polotoo's hubby.
Hippo, the tyres may not have them. If the groove looks less than 2mm, or the tyres look in bad condition (ie cracks in the sidewalls) then they need replaced. Yuo can always take them to a tyre place and they'll tell you.
Its impossibe to say exactly how long tyres will last, though on a front wheel drive car the rear tyres should def be okay. The wear of the front tyres will depend on the tyres, how the car has been driven, and if the wheels are aligned and balanced properly. Put it this way Ive had to replace tyres much sooner than 21k but that doesn't necessarily mean you need to.
Hey all
You made me chuckle. I only typed what I was told, it didn't really make sense to me. No offence taken Kramer - easy to misread things on here, thanks for pointing it out Philby - although I wouldn't have disagreed, as I said I only typed what I was told to!!
Sorry, London Hippo, I think we've only succeeded in confusing you further. It may be best to take it into a local garage or tyre place, make sure its one where you can ask them to show you and explain what it is they mean, just so you are happy you aren't getting ripped off if they say you need new tyres.
I've tried looking for some photos on the pirelli website, but you don't say what type of fiat it is? If you post again, I'll see what I can find to explain it in easy terms, hopefully if I understand it, so will you!
