Quite right, ladybird. I remember my mother giving my brother £1000 as a deposit on his house which cost £7000. This was later, in 1977.

Lady - house prices TRIPLED in eighteen mo in 1972 ( or thereabouts )
which was caused and coinceded with the hike in oil prices ( all the prices just rose )

and then and then there was 30% inflation in 1976
so my 52 week grant of £900 was worth £600 by the end of the grant year ( Aug 77 ) and my god didnt we know it

The landleddy of the Brandon Hotel in Netherbury now long pulled down
said her biggest mistake was not buying a house ( small but anyway ) on the way to he church for £25. Yup twenny five - this must have been during the hike of tripling

PP, I bought a house in October 1972. It was the only house for sale in the city where I lived and I got it because the estate agent who owned it was a friend of mine. The Houses for Sale pages in the local paper were empty. Do you, or anyone else, know what was going on in the country that caused people to hold off selling their properties? I either can't remember or never knew!
