I have a pot of supermarket bought Basil which I have used and cut down and has re-grown. The re-growth has now developed small, white flowers. I have never seen a Basil plant flower before. Is this a first.......like the cuckoo?

From the RHS:
"Keep plants bushy and productive by pinching the tips of branches regularly and remove any flowers that start to develop".

Wasn't there an epic 19th Cen poem about a pot of basil holding a horrible secret, a severed head?
