The last thing a community needs is more hard standing in place of natural plants/soil. It is comparatively awful to look at, plus it is not ecologically friendly. In any case not all houses are suitable for this type of vandalism, and not everyone could afford a place designed with a drive (the cost would rocket if the right to park on the road was taken away). In addition visitors could not possibly park in the same drive/garden as the family they are visiting park their car. And why shouldn't drivers be able to park on the road they paid for many times over ? Insisting roads are only for moving traffic simply isn't workable; it'd just give more opportunities to beat up on drivers and make their life intolerable (so it'll probably be pushed for then).
