European employment and language

Hello, I am 21 living in England, and would really like to work and live in a European country.  What European countries is most likely to provide casual employment to a foreigner?  Are their specific countries which has high unemployment / strict immigration laws?  Or am I unlikely to gain entry to live anywhere?!  Ideally I would just like to leave and get a bar job or something and get away for a year or two and learn a language.

I believe in any European Union country, you have the same rights as their own nationals to seek and take up employment.  No member state should have stricter immigration laws for EU citizens.  I am not sure about levels of unemployment though.

Germany's pretty horrendous, but in many countries you can fill in as the 'english speaker' for example, in tourism. Bar work is excellent, as is tour guiding. Personally I would recommend the south of France, great people, and quite laid back, if you get some basic french together, they'll be quite welcoming.

Disappointing to hear Germany not being a good idea...its the only language I can grasp it seems :(   Thanks very much for your answer(s) though :)

German (or dialects of German) is spoken in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Switzerland but I don't know what like the employment prospects would be in those countries.

I'm trying to count in my head the number of people I know that went to work abroad and regretted it.

Out of the countries mentioned by the Corbyloon, two (Switzerland and Liechtenstein) are not EU members so you would need to check with their own consulates about visas and work permits there.  You may be interested in the EU website: http://www.europa.eu.int/index_en.htm
