could somebody please explain the meaning of squatters rights? Why on earth should somebody who trespasses and lives somewhere they shouldn't get rights?

Too right !! Though no doubt the usual clutch of hand-wringers will totally disagree.
True squatters rights are adverse posession, meaning a squatter becomes the owner of land if no attempt was made to remove them, and they had acted properly for 12 years. Otherwise, regarding the temporary sort , I have to agree I'm not sure how they are allowed to hang around so easily while continually delaying their eviction legally. Ant government could fix this but are apparently happy with it as it is.
