One man's oppression is another man's joy of faith.

You can find demands in any religion - and followers who follow them to the letter, more or less, a bit, or not at all.

But you can be sure that the more devout a follower is, the less he or she feels that following practices is a burden.

They were obviously not interested in petting animals the motive was to cause offence by praying. Who in their right mind would want to upset children of any faith by turning a happy outing into a bleedin prayer session. Good on that chap for standing his ground and not pandering to them.

Generally Muslims won't keep dogs as pets but those Muslims who won't keep dogs as pets will keep them as working dogs, such as hunting dogs.

Other than that, Muslims are allowed to keep animals as pets provided they are not extravagant pets and that they are treated kindly.

I often see Muslim families at both the local zoo and the local nature centre which has petting animals such as rabbits, sheep, cows, ponies, donkeys, goats and pigs.

You might know of Abdullah Afzal, an actor who plays Amjad in Citizen Khan. He is a devout Muslim (not an extremist!) and a hafiz (somebody who has memorise the Koran and can recite it in full or in any part).

He is totally soppy about his cat, and often posts photos of him on Twitter
