Wine Of The Week - Quickie

Just been in my local co-op - they have an old favourite of mine
Marques de Valido Rioja Reserva 2011
on offer at £5.99 with an extra 15% off if you buy 4 or more - that's an actual price of £5.09 - a great price for a five year old bottle of reserva.
It's a super, easy to drink, lightish rioja - loads of fruit and great with the BBQ when the summer returns.
Fill your boots while it lasts - but don't bother with my local co-op, I cleaned them out .... "oooh - two dozen bottles - is that nice then?" said the charming young lady on till 3 :=)

Thanks for the info, Dave. I've just come back from the Co-op, so I could have picked up a few bottles if I'd known about the discount! From memory, the Marques de Valido is described as 'reserva' but it tastes rather closer to a 'crianza' (but it's still a very pleasant wine anyway!). I've recently rediscovered one of Asda's fantastic bargains, which I've...

I've recently rediscovered one of Asda's fantastic bargains, which I've recommended here several times before but almost forgotten about while I'd been quaffing mainly real ales instead of wines. It's the Merlot in their 'La Moneda' range of Chilean wines, which sells for just £4.40 per bottle or at 2 for £8.00. It's as good as many wines costing £6 or £7 at least, so I'm happy to recommend it once more ;-)

trés buvable is that wee Rioja and not a bad price.... as to moi, just knocking back a Vin Alta, a Malbec, from Argieland @ £6 a bottle, and quite reasonable for the price point......
As the US Ambassador ex Clinton said, when interviewed by a Beeb gal whipsnapper, he smoking a Cuban, and challenged as to whether cigars were banned in the States, "Madame, the first principle of war is to burn the enemy's crops."
Shame that she wasn't smart enough to point out that the USA wasn't at war with Cuba - but a nice remark....same applies to Argueland's wine....
