I had to listen to a long diatribe from a couple yesterday, about immigration.

They come out with all the usual racist and xenophobic drivel....all these foreigners taking our jobs, changing our way of life, smelling of curry, etc.

This is in a small village in the Neath Valley, with nary a non-white face to be seen.

They both had well paid jobs, both with the local authority. But then they said that they were so fed up with all these foreigners, that they were in the process of emigrating to Australia !

When I gently pointed out, that when they arrive in OZ, THEY will be the immigrants, they said............."oh but that's not the same at all !"

Hypocrisy is a word that comes to mind !

Australia dont accept just any old immigrant.They ensure their immigrants are accepted with something useful to offer Australia not like the Uk who accept thousands of immigrants to ensure a Labour vote and reward them generously for doing so.

Me too ric ! We have a splendid Bangladeshi Takeaway in my village, and I have to restrict myself to just one visit a month.

The difference between those that emigrate to Australia and the immigrants in the UK is that to move to AUstralia you have to prove you are self sufficient and have a well paid job to go to. Here they let in anybody.

That's not quite the correct term when it comes to those arriving from the EU, Dave. The UK has no right to deny entry to anybody arriving from any of the 27 other EU nations. They can visit here, settle here, work here and draw benefits here. It is rather like saying Hampstead Heat "lets in anybody". And the only way to change that is for the UK to quit the EU and not, incidentally, to then join EFTA, which some are suggesting as a possibility.
