Following our recent conversation concerning Salman Rushdie’s ‘Midnight’s Children’, I’ve just finished reading it. Suffice to say that after my dour experience with ‘The Satanic Verses’ and now this, I shan’t be reading Rushdie again.

I haven't read any of his other work.
By the way, it must be at least a month since vetuste was on AB?

I spent a day at Istanbul airport between flights, so I bought a copy of Midnight's Children. I got to page 100 and then laid it aside and spent the rest of the day buying Turkish delight instead.
However, it's just not a style of writing I enjoy much; that doesn't mean it's bad. Readers' tastes harden and patience shortens as they get older, I find.

Ag, I spoke to V_E on an old thread a couple of days ago. I think he looks in. I’ve just started another book by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, ‘The Watcher in the Shadows’. I enjoyed his ‘The Shadow of the Wind’ and ‘The Angel’s Game’. We’ll see how this one goes.
