Usual reasons for time limits on these things are:

* they can be diuretics
* they can do something to your stomach creating stomach ulcers, after prolonged usage
* they can be in some way addictive

So, these may not be the reasons, but they're often the reasons for this kind of limit, sometimes.

I think it must be the Diclofenac content, Doctors are very twitchy about that lately, just checked my pack and it says consult GP if no improvement after 7 days.

I have used it over a longer time frame than that myself.

I was talking in general terms - however - I am repeating what I have been told by pharmacists when buying painkiller gels, which you rub on your skin.

As JD pointed out, I carefully couched it in generalisations - and with caveats that this may not be the correct answer.

The addictive relates to warnings you receive on painkillers like co codamol - to clarify.

My doctor prescribed it for my plantar fasciitis recently and didn't put a time limit on it, 'use until it feels better' was the general message. If[pain is particularly bad I take an ibuprofen tablet instead of rubbing in the voltarol.
