They're the real powers today, the ones who have sovereignty. Look at Cameron wringing his hands over Amazon's indifference to paying tax, if you don't believe me - he's outraged but he won't do anything about it. The EU is the only body strong enough to take on Philip Morris or Amazon or Google, and they will do it.
That's the sort of thing that makes me think Britain is better off in the EU. Call me anti-British if you want, but I believe Britons are better off in than out. Without the EU they'd still be paying gigantic roaming charges on their mobiles.

Mr J2 did live through 'Nazi-occupied Europe' (he was an evacuee) and after that we recently lived in an area of France which was borderline 'Free French'.
