You will enjoy the opera PP.....very well sung indeed.

The Tory ABs are away licking their wounds at the moment, but to paraphrase my avatar, just like Tories everywhere, they always come back !
tried it M ikey...not for me can't abide female sopranos..male tenor all the way for me....or my fav of all time..Mscgani intermezzo...
For me it's the Humming Chorus from Madame Butterfly.
Thanks Minty xx

better ?
Not a very good recording Minty, sounds tinny.
don't suppose anything is quite like the real thing..bestest ever for me was pav live....once in a lifetime thing...
Probably before your time but for me the greatest tenor is Beniamino Gigli whom I was fortunate enough to have afternoon tea with
danny..gigli was one of dad's all time favs.....how on earth did you manage that ?
Question Author
MM....just for you....Big Lucy singing Una Furtiva lagrima...a furtive tear, and not a soprano in sight !

And here is Beniamino Gigli, just for MM, to compare !

Minty, I was a big fan and regularly corresponded with Barbara Grossi, his secretary. In 1952 I was in the army in Germany and she wrote to say he was staying at a particular hotel in Dusseldorf.I went there and he invited me to join him for afternoon tea.One of the highlights of my life.

always my fav had it played at dad's funeral.. wonderful piece of music..
how lucky Danny...dad would have loved to meet him..he had some very early recordings
Question Author
Danny...wonderful story ! ! !

My grandmother saw Callas at Covent Garden in the 1960s, in the famous Zeffirelli production of "Tosca" and she talked about it for years after !

I saw Pavarotti in "Un ballo in Maschera" in the early 90's. I was aware of his wonderful voice but I wasn't prepared for the huge size of it....it was ruddy enormous !

Size of his voice or his ... body
gargled with olive oil I suppose

I saw him at his final and last performance ( the one before the truly final, and the last last and the other final one ) backed by Cecilia Bartoli in Birngham and everyone said -
who is that amazing soprano with the old man .....
I saw Tito Gobbi at Covent Garden in 1974 and was told thirty years later by an opera-mane ( balletomane but liked singing better ) that I couldnt have and I shouldnt make things up or I would be caught out with a lie in my mouth

and it was one of the most embarassing moments of my life
( not the performance which was good but the stinging rebuke )
Pleased to find a link down there to Una Furtiva Lagrima ... just gorgeous. The aria, not the fat sweaty bloke singing it.

Dannyk had tea with Beniamino Gigli?? OMG and wow! R e s p e c t !
