A friend of mine abroad wishes to talk with me by a messenger however he has ADSL (obviously via a modem) and so his connection is very slow. Can anyone recommend a messenger he could use? Or even better give me a few links to sites and downloadables? Thanks.

There is no reason why an ADSL broadband connection should be very slow. It is probably worthwhile investigating that first. The majority of messenger type programs use a minimal amount of bandwidth as it's basically text. I've used Yahoo Messenger, Yahelite, Yazak and MSN Messenger on an ADSL connection with no dleay or lag problems.
I agree Billy, I think MURKY must be confusing ADSL with 56k dial-up
I agree with the above, and they do all use minimal bandwidth.
