Why cant you put cooked veg waste in the composter (according to the leaflet that came with the composter)? Thanks.

Because cooking has destroyed the natural enzymes that encourage the vegetables in its raw state to rot naturally.

Also the 'goodness' in the veg that would make good compost has disappeared into the cooking water. :)

Would it matter if you put it in there anyway?
It would attract all sorts of vermin and flies, and could taint the other matter you put in for compost , so I wouldn't.

Don't forget you can put your old newspapers in the compost, eggshells are particularly good too.

Have you considered a wormery?

Wow I knew you could put egg cartons (the cardborad ones) but I didn't know you can put newspapers in as well - do you have to scrunch them up or anything or just sling them in as they come?
