"smart" Water
11 Answers
needed drink earlier and picked up a bottle of water - smart water - it's "made" by coca-cola. Reding the label it's "steam distilled" the electrolytes are added.
this begs 2 questions - is there any other way of distilling water other than through steam?
what's the point in distilling all the elctrolytes out, then putting htem back in again???

"To make glaceau smartwater, we evaporate spring water, condense the vapour and then add just the right amount of electrolytes before bottling".
I suppose the implication is that they adjust the quantity of electrolytes to achieve a perfect taste. (NB: I'm not saying that I actually believe any of that hype!).
Those electrolytes are calcium chloride (which will make the water taste 'harder', whereas many Brits happily pay to get their tap water 'softened'), magnesium chloride (for no obvious reason) and potassium bicarbonate (which is usually an acidity regulator when added to foods but would seem to do little here other than possibly to make it very slightly 'salty').
I hope, Bednobs, that you also paid careful attention to the nutritional information so kindly provided by Coca Cola ;-)

To be honest I think it is more used to distil alcohol than water, but nevertheless it is one method of distillation.

Latest evidence appears to show that drinking Smart Water can result in a reduced level of accuracy in typing.
I prefer my water the simple way, filtered through an extinct volcano in France, collected, bottled, shipped across the channel then driven 500 miles on UK motorways to my local Morrisons. :-P
