Baby Animal Rescued In Sri Lanka

This is a sweet video but makes me wonder how junior got down there in the first place. At the end of the day he has a suspected broken leg.

A baby elephant had to be dragged from uncovered drain in Sri Lanka yesterday after rescuers say it fell in and broke its leg.

Local port workers and wildlife experts rushed to the rescue of the young calf after it was spotted near the port of Hambantota on Sunday.

Footage shows the distressed animal struggling in the drain, while people try to free it by smashing the sides of the hole with sledgehammers and a blow torch.

An adult elephant, who is believed to be the calf's mother, is also briefly seen in the clip looking on at the scene unfolding.The calf is eventually yanked out the hole by two ropes tied to the front of its feet - and held up by its rescuers.

For me this is one of those smiley moments when you can't stop smiling. I love Sri Lanka - and the Sri Lankans love their elephants. It's been my great privilege to wade into the river there and help the keepers bathe the elephants. Unforgettable.

I was surprised that its mother wasn't making her opinion known and butting her trunk in.

I love elephants, Gorillas and canines and felines of all types.

I detest with a passion Chimps ~ evil animals. Humans are bearable in small doses.

One of the Gibraltar monkey's tried to steal my bag and another monkey in Thailand stole the crisps I was eating. I was just sitting there minding my own business..

wolf - do you ever watch the chimps on Monkey World? They're fabulous and absolutely love Jeremy their main carer. I love to see them flinging their arms around him, cuddling him and playing with him. I could watch him forever interacting with all the animals at Monkey World.
