I think 15d (Soldier backs into furniture etc) is Rattigan. Rattan - furniture. IG soldier backs into furniture - GI. Rattigan is the playwright.

And Susan as you know he wrote Separate Tables which was my original line of thinking from the letters given and the mention of furniture (Tables) and material for a playwright!! Well done

I have to confess that I'm not too hot on Rattigan's plays - there's always alot more to these clues than meets the eye!
