It is contraindicated in pregnancy as there is a risk of birth defects, especially feminisation of the genetalia of a male fetus. This is because it contains an anti-androgen. It is also used to treat adult males with excess sex hormone.
Gps are actually meant to review the use of dianette regularly as it is really only intended to be used as a contraceptive as an adjunct to the other symptoms it is treating eg acne and hirsutism due to polycystic ovary syndrome.
dianette isnt filled with nicotine at all. Dianette is a special type of pill that helps women with bad skin or excessive hair growth generally due to having polycystic ovaries. Dianette is know to be harmful to developing male babies and it is not recommended that you use this whilst pregnant (although that defeats the point of the pill as it is). This pill contains anti-androgens as androgens are needed to develop a male foetus it is important if you think you are pregnant that you stop taking the medicine until your doctor has ruled pregnancy out.
Dianette is never prescribed as just a contraceptive for these very reasons.
Thanks,
I was put on dianette for PCO, although my hormone levels are completely normal. The reason for teh question is because i have smoe symptoms associated with my first pregnancy, although I understand that some of these are also associated with sideeffects of Dianette! I did a pregnancy test last week which was negative, but am concerned as I am not due on til this weekend and therefore it may have a been a bit premature!
