I have been using an app to catalogue my books. There are a few that are different and come up not an ISBN. Mainly James Patterson hardbacks. They have ones like 0 000000 044790
Can anyone advise.

There are 2 formats of ISBN - 10 characters and 13 characters.

Perhaps your app is not recognising both formats - or could your books be book club editions?

You could search the British National Bibliography, which lists all titles published in the UK since 1950. It includes those titles published simultaneously in US and UK, but not those published exclusively outside the UK. Originally it listed SNBs, then ISBNs. Your numbers may refer to electronic books rather than to print copies.

Or you could try the catalogue of the Bodleian Library - search for "Bodleian Solo"

I will look at these options as I'm not looking forward to typing in name and author of 100 or so books.
Have you checked that the books themselves do not quote their own ISBNs ? They are normally printed on the backs of the title pages.
Question Author
They are actually books not ebooks as I am cataloguing books I own. I'm scanning barcode on back of book! I've looked inside as a few old books don't have barcodes, but no luck.
katiecarol - I have hundreds of signed first editions which I was considering cataloguing in a similar way rather than a basic card index system!

Can I ask which system it is - 'LibraryThing'?

agchristie - i do have library thing but hardly use. im talking about the app 'book catalogue' off google play store in this instance though.
