I've just replaced my old Vista laptop with a Chromebook. I've bought a digital album from Amazon, but it downloads as a Zip Archive. I have Google Music and the Amazon music app on my Chromebook, but seem unable to transfer the download to a USB device. Google music just tells me to install the app again.I have tried to drag the file onto the USB, but it wont play as its a Zip file. Am I flogging a dead horse? I can do it on my old laptop, but it's on it's last legs. Any help gratefully appreciated

So what happens if you just double click the zip file, does the chromebook have a zip tool to uncompress the files? This seems to give instruction http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-simple-ways-zip-unzip-files-chromebook/

Thank you Fitzer. If I double click it opens it as a folder, which shows the album tracks as MP3 audio, but still can't seem to transfer them onto a USB
Did you follow the bit about the zip needing to be in the downloads folder, it seems to indicate that you can then drag the individual files into the downloads folder as well and then (presumably) wherever you want, I've never used a Chromebook so wouldn't know. The link also indicates that there are apps and web services to handle zip files as well.

Yes it is in the downloads folder, but the problem seems to be transferring it to a USB .I've now done it on my old Windows laptop. It may well be that it's not possible on Chromebook. Thanks for your help
