Drilling Holes Into Plastic Pots

I have bought two plastic garden pots but there are no drainage holes in them. How do I drill holes in the base of the pots, safely? I don't want to crack the base.

Is there a technique for doing this please?

Very risky indeed, the pot could just shatter, I certainly wouldn't chance it!

A very hot meat skewer would work as long as the plastic isn't too thick but certainly wouldn't hit it.

No skewer, use a hot screw driver

Tambourine is right - I use red hot metal knitting needle which is the same principle

I've done it. The drill needed re-charging so I used a screwdriver and a hammer. It took all of two seconds to do each hole! (Probably ruined the screwdriver, though.)

I have skewer and an apple corer both for the hole making. Heat up as tambourine says but do it in a ventilated place....melted plastic stinks
