I tried doing a reverse image check in Google to see if anyone had uploaded a picture of this at some time - but got zilch.

Where did you get the image? There is always a tiny chance that there is more text that can't be seen.

I presume that it is in Latin ~ maybe one of the others, who understand Latin will be able to help you.

Wolf; I no longer have a reference to where the sculpture is, probably in a Baroque church in south Germany or Austria. I first thought 'aus' might be German meaning 'out', but there is a full stop after it, so it might be an abreviation for the latin ausculto listen, obey.

Chinajan; Thank you, I now remember from where I gathered the image having visted Birnau within the last 12 months and it is only about a 2 hour's drive from where I live. It has a spectacular setting by Bodensee (Lake Constance) and if I remember correctly it has some connection with nearby Salem.
