If 'Compaq hard drive', in your question, means a Compaq desktop computer, you're probably simply looking at blanking plates covering two unused bays. To access a hard drive you usually need to remove a side panel, as shown here: http://www.data-r-us.com/help/hard-drive-remove-hp-compaq-desktop.html

Your hard drive has compartments on the back?
Can you post a picture of the view of the compartments?

Yes. I was told to just unscrew the back of hard drive casing and remove the hard drive but I appear to have a top section and a bottom section to unscrew and I just wondered where the hard drive would be located.

Many thanks Buenchico, that's what I wanted.
Just remove the whole casing. It's usually very easy on anything other than a Dell (which, fortunately, you've not got!)
Kazal, did you see my reply about lung problem?
