Cats protection league

Hello all

I recently got a cat from the cats protection league (she is very cute by the way - sorry have to tell everyone) and when I picked her up they told me that she loves IAMS. Has anyone else got a cat from the CPL? If so what food did they suggest for your cat. I was wondering if they were sponsered by IAMS in return for telling people to give their cats IAMS.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard that IAMS does animal testing and keeps the dogs and cats in cages. Ever since then I cannot bring myself to buy IAMS and in a way it was good because my Lexi didn't like it anyway.

i was told mine would only eat fish flavoured iams, i have since found out she will eat most cat foods but is very faddy, our routine has now settled into iams for brekkie and something like one of the small tins of sheba or gourmet range for dinner. and then there is of course anything i'm eating which she seem to think she has a right to!

We got a young cat about 3 months ago from Cats Protection (sorry ours is definitely the absolute cutest).

We weren't told anything about what to feed her, but we've found she has an extremely healthy appetite and has eaten almost everything we've given her. We've tried her on everything from Morrisons own "My Cat" to Whiskers and she scoffs the lot. There's only one she doesn't seem to like and that's Arthurs. I've never tried her with Iams as it's a bit pricey.

As well as the soft catfood there's a small dish of crunchies she can nibble on throughout the day. And of course any titbits she gets from us --- roast chicken, fresh fish, tin tuna (in springwater of course), smoked mackerel, roast pork, cheese, lamb chops, pilchards ankles, cuddly toys, fingers etc etc etc. ;0)

CPL aren't 'funded' by Iams but if anyone offers to support their cause, as a charity they do need to look at the opportunity and if such a business comes along then sometimes ethics may take a different aspect, based on the fact that the quality of food for animals must be proven - but there are better ways thatn the practices of Iams as can be found with a little effort from the petowner.

Hills are in similar position, and they seem to have the vets market totally covered.

Iams are in the UK trade association for pet food manufacturers : http://www.pfma.com/public/welcome.htm and thier link is on the CPL site at: http://www.cats.org.uk/index.asp but this doesn't imply they take funding from Iams.

And my 2 little furry biscuit barrels are the cutest - don't argue...

Please, don't buy Iams! we have three cats at home, and although they loved the stuff, we stopped buying it a few years ago because of the awful cruelty that I'ver heard about in Iams testing labs. The food is very addictive and high in fat, so the cats will love it, but if you visit www.peta.org you'll see some footage that was taken in an Iams testing lab, where beagles were left in a terrible state and force fed gallons of oil.

i have been petitioning at my local Tesco shop to ask them to stop selling such unethical food, and I've asked all my friends not to buy it.

I hope this helps. Your cat will soon adjust to any other food you try! Mine love Purina, which is very siilar to Iams.

i'm terribly sorry to interupt but my pure white cat called princess gobbolino is indeed the fairest of them all and she'll haave anyones eye out who disagrees with her!!!!!!! and a serious note about iams wouldn't touch it with long long bargepole

Oh my God! I didnt know that about Iams ! I dont buy it, but will def. be looking out for companies that dont test on animals!!
Love the name gobbolino by the way SCHUMI lol Did you read Gobbolino the witches cat too?? (I still have that book lol)

The best diet in canada is medi-cal. It is all natural and if I die and come back as a cat I want to be at the medi-cal diet clinic and testing center. This is the website: www.medi-cal.ca/. It is only available at the vets and is a bit more money but it is really high quality. My vet (and boss) researched 3 diets; Hills Medi-cal and Science Diet. Medi-cal is the best of the 3. Nutra-max sponsors the humane society out here. I had not heard about Iams, but that is awful! Glad I don't feed it.

It could be that they recommended Iams because the cat was used to it in their previous home.

My vet recommended Hills Science & both my cats seem to love it.
