Remove the 'leg' of the capital 'R' in ERIC to get a 'P' - Epic, Heroic.
I found this a really difficult puzzle. Actually SWMBO helped to unlock the bottom right section as she knew the name of the herb! But I couldn't work this one out. I knew that Eric was the first name of the comedian but the rest of the clue didn't make sense. Until Mamyalynne yet again showed me ( and others of course) how it fitted. Thank you as always. steven
Glad I could help Steven - how are you.

Wondered where you had gone after the funny mix up the other week.
I am very well except for the referendum result! Better not pursue that here! And I have just realised that I am missing one more answer. The clue is " missing start of canal, go up arm perhaps" I have ?i?b so the answer seems to be limb which fits the last two words. But I can't work out the rest. Help please? steven
(C) limb - C is the first letter of canal
No, plenty of places to discuss the referendum on here and this isn't one of them.

Glad you're well and nicely side stepped re the mix up.

Best left is it?
Thank you. I didn't see the " mix up" .

Ah, a user named 'Ameld' replied on a thread as if you and he were the same person.

A relative or someone at your house?
He's my mother's friend. I showed him the site when he became interested in me doing crosswords. I had to help him a few times as he couldn't crack it! I don't remember this time but I must have forgotten to change back to my name after helping him. Sorry if I caused confusion. SWMBO says that truth will always out.
Actually there's one more thing about him. I also got him interested in theGeneralist. And this month he's there as the winner! He was quite jubilant as he says he's never gone in for competitions before so obviously never won one.
Oh dear. I seem to have ,unwittingly, caused a problem for Steven, my friend's son. That is the last thing I would have wanted. He is such a nice boy. Sorry Steven. Sorry kind people. I meant what I wrote in my original message. I shall carry on struggling to improve my crosswords skills but I shall keep a very low profile. I shall certainly continue with the Generalist. Great fun perhaps more in keeping with my skills than the Times Jumbo. Alan Meld
Ta for untangling the confusion Steven and Ameld - well done on the win too.

Keep puzzling.
