I had a heart monitor on for a few days a couple of months ago because I was found to have an irregular heart beat, at a regular health check-up. Anyway, I've received a copy of the letter the hospital sent my doctor, but I don't understand what it means. It says in it's entirety:- "An R-test shows sinus rhythm with occasional ventricular extra systoles. There are no significant arrhythmias identified"
I assume it's nothing to be concerned about, just interested to know what it all means. Thank you.

In a nutshell.......if the ECG is otherwise normal then these " occasional ventricular extra systoles" are perfectly harmless and no big deal.

Not sure what they mean by R test.
LOL.....OK thanks mamy.

Thank you both very much. I thought it was nothing to worry about, thanks for the confirmation. I was just interested to know what the terms meant, could you elucidate (if you have the time), no worries if not.
LOl Marjin what do you want "elucidating?"
I always have time for....you.

Aah, bless you :-) "sinus rhythm", "ventricular extra systoles" and "arrhythmias". Thanks very much
sinus rhythm.....this describes the normal beats of the heart as recorded by the ECG and depicts a normal heart.

Ventricular extrasystoles: during sinus rhythm, as defined above, the left ventricle decides to put in an extra beat for a short period of time. In 99.9% of cases, they are of no medical significance.

Arrhythmia: these are changes in normal sinus rhythm as defined above and may or may not be of sinister changes, but should be investigated by a Cardiologist.
Arrhythmias may be regularly irregular or irregularly irregular (something for you to ponder on) ;-)

Thanks again, I like the way you explain things. I have "no significant arrhythmias", so thank goodness I don't need to understand your last sentence. :-)
Marjin.

I always find it difficult to decide at what level to pitch my answers.

Too technical and the ABer doesn't understand the answer, or too simply and the ABer may feel the you are patronising them.

Can be difficult.

Thanks for always answering :-)
I get occasional arrythmia, marjin - I too have been tested, basically they said nothing wrong, go away and forget about it.
