Caroline Aherne has passed away following a battle with throat cancer. The Gogglebox star was forced to take time off from narrating the show earlier this year while she received treatment for the disease.

The poor woman suffered I believe from inherited child hood cancer and had to come to terms with the condition, but I cant imagine how you do that. She was I think married to Hookie from New Order and distraught after their break up. Very funny girl, and the script that she co-wrote for the Royle Family is a classic. Remember her line to Debbie Magee when playing her spoof chat show hostess Mrs Merton, "and tell me Debbie, what first attracted you to multi millionaire magician Paul Daniels". R.I.P.
