Am battling to get details on visas required for a day visa for Oman whilst visiting on a cruise. If I go onto the Royal Oman Police website it appears I have to pay for a 2 week visa. Is this correct or is there a specific via for cruise line passengers? Has anyone experienced this? The cruise line themselves have been less than helpful!

What cruise Company are you going with. The Saga site says they send out visa forms 8 weeks prior to holiday. Royal Caribbean have a link to their own visa site. They all seem to be different.
"British nationals don’t need to get a visa before travelling to Oman. You can get a visa on arrival at any land, sea or air entry port in the country.

If you’re staying in Oman for less than 10 days you can get a tourist visa on entry for OMR5

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry"

cruises I've been on (including one to Oman) didn't require visas at all, the cruise line took care of it, and all I've ever done is just stroll ashore. The one exception was going ashore in Israel, where everyone was briefly questioned. Why not give the cruise line a call and ask?

Apart from the visa question what does the FO say about tourist safety there? It's beside Aden which is in the throes of violent civil war.
they mention an "underlying threat of terrorism", but I suppose they could say the same of Paris if they wanted. Don't get caught up in demos, don't bare your buttocks in mosques and so on and you should be fine.
