joeluke, at least when the fire service go into action they have the latest and best equipment, I bet the soldiers thought they would have the same luxury. Blair didn't wait to equip his troops properly, he wanted to make a name for himself, emulating Margaret Thatcher, it's no witch hunt.

My son-in-law was sent there and it was left to us to buy some of the things he needed, can't remember all of them but I do remember going to get goggles to protect his eyes from the sand. How absurd that they weren't provided with such basic kit.

I am not a labour supporter, nor a blairite, but feel incredibly sorry for TB - it;s all a load of "it might have been different if they had done blah" yeah, but it also might not have been. human beings are not infallible

bednobs, it might have been different if Blair, instead of seeking self glory had actually made certain his troops had the necessary and relevant equipment to carry out the task he wanted. Do you know of any other country where the parents buy the life saving equipment for their sons and daughters serving in the forces?

yes of course but what do they hope to achieve? private prosecution? compensation? It seems unclear what the intention is. I cannot begin to understand how they must be feeling and no doubt they want something to sate their sorrow but I can't help thinking that they are just going to pour their hard earned into some fat cat lawyers' pockets for no achievable result. Better to hire a professional hit man.

I wouldn't blame the families of those who lost their lives if they wanted to try prosecuting Blair, although I'm not convinced it would be successful.

Blair's decision was NOT made on the best advice available. It was in fact contrary to the advice of the weapons inspectors appointed by the UN who subsequently were proven right. He deserves to be jailed for the rest of his life.

Both Blair and Bush said they had prayed to God when making the decision and preferred that advice to that of the inspectors. How immoral is that?Anyone who has read the Bible would know that God loves war and "the smell of burning flesh".

The difference is that the best available science at the time of the Iraq invasion said that they didn't have weapons of mass destruction. Blair and Bush decided to ignore that and follow their own agenda.

Joeluke were you affected by Hillsborough or the Iraq war? I doubt it by your crass statement that the families 'are always looking for scapegoats'. In the case of Hillsborough, I think they have been vindicated in their search for justice and I hope the families of the soldiers of the Iraq war get their day in court with Tony Blair in the dock!
