call me a sad so and so, but ive just been watching Top Gun for the 30,000th time.

i noticed the military crew are wearing two dog tags. one on a full length chain, and one connected to the long chain with a smaller ball chain.

my question for today is, why two dog tags ?

Two tags are on the chaind so if the wearer is killed in battle, one tag can be removed for notification, and the other remains with the body for identification.
