I had a prang and my car has been written of by the insurance company,they arranged for it to be taken away by a salvage company but what do now regarding the log book and no longer being the owner

You should have given the V5 ( log Book ) or left in the car, send it back to the DVLA At Swansea, look inside the V5 it tells you in there the procedere.
There should be section on it you fill out, tear off and send to DVLA. You must do this or you will be chased for vehicle tax etc. I must admit when I scrspped a car the yard also completed a section for sending off but can't quite remember.
the salvage co should have filled in the yellow slip(V5C/3). You can fill it in if you know their details and send it off.
