Take the laces out of one and follow the pattern on t'other???

I'm struggling to see why you are finding it difficult, what is your exact problem?
Question Author
it's not the pattern - it is "thickness" of lace
Then you've bought laces that are too thick....
Question Author
No they are not too thick - the little plastic thing at the end of the lace is not long enough to grasp.
if they're too thick they're too thick. If you can *just* get them in then it'll be a pain any time you want to adjust them. Should you maybe just get thinner ones?
the aiglet? Poke it through the hole with a needle.
Question Author
The eyelets of the sandals are "longish" - not the regular eyelets of a shoe.
Question Author
I thought so - have to hunt a needle now.
Dear me, this is like pulling aiglets!

(Thanks Jno, I never knew they were called that!)
Put sellotape around the end of the lace and go up the lace with the tape until it is long enough for you to grasp.
