Thanks Gromit !...A full and very informative reply.

So it wasn't my PC that was at fault after all. I didn't think it was, as I was able to access other website without trouble. It seems to be working OK now.
Now you mention it, it has seemed to pick up again, for now.

I have been having this slowness problem, on and off, for some time. I have also had other problems, like missing names underneath avatars, and sometimes complete gibberish instead of proper text.

But this has only happened with AB, and not with any other internet site.

Is there a techie on, that can explain why a power failure in a part of the network, Telehouse North, in London, in this case, can effect some websites and not others ?

And why it happened to JennyJoan and I, and not others ?

I believe they call it dementia mikey. It creeps up with age. :-)

Mikey, I know you prefer to pretend that I'm invisible, but there are several people here who said they've had problems today - including me - so it isn't just you and jennyjoan.
Who said that? ^^Lol.
Haaa! Dunno.... spooky. :o)
If you imagine the internet network as being like the London Tube network.
And at each tube station someone puts up a poster. If one of the stations closes, then you will not see a poster there, but you will see those at all the other stations. The same thing happens on telecom exchanges on the internet. If that link goes down then the site cannot be accessed.
This exchange in London must handle the Answerbankbut not other sites you use.

Ah !...hadn't realised Gromit...another thanks from me then !
Question Author
Gromit....just had a thought.

Why didn't everybody have difficulty with accessing AB, if what you say is true. Or perhaps AB is hosted ( is that the correct term ? ) by lots of different places, at the same time and it was just my bad luck that I used the Telehouse North way of accessing AB ?
Didn't you use to work for BT mikey?
Question Author
Retro...yes but in pre-internet days. Or at least, in the very early days...late 80's.
I suspect the preferred route from other places don't usually go via the node with problems.
Didn't you use to work for BT mikey?

Mikey was part of the lobby within the "Old BT" that insisted that all messages were telegrams and must be hand delivered with special rates, for out of normal working practice, distances, or hours, paid at treble time with 4 days recovery days off on full pay, and that the internet was a wicked Tory plot to make everyone destitute. Haha (^_*)
mikey, if you have thousands of cookies, things can considerably slow down - and I find AB is especially susceptible....I clean mine once a fortnight, at least. Yes, it means reloading with names and passwords.......
Question Author
Thanks DTC, but I don't think that is related to the problems I had this morning.....I couldn't access AB at all.
mikey -it was BT -I did a BT test this morning and I was 'pinging' off Maidenhead ( yes I realise that sounds remotely rude) and couldn't get onto AB for about an hour - I thought for a moment I'd been banned before I got restarted lol!
Question Author
Retrochic....lets hope BT gets it act in order.

By the way, welcome back, although I hadn't noticed you were gone !
