You may get as far as 99% and that's your lot; without an activation key for an up-dated Operating System.
Furthermore, it is very unlikely that you will be able to get a genuine copy of W10 for less than £80/90. Pirated copies will cause all sorts of problems. They'll work for a while and then the problems start, without there being a way back to your present system, which I would think is quite sound for at least a further four years.
I have refrained from 'updating' because I took the view ..'If it aint broke, don't fix it.'
You are obviously quite at liberty to disregard anything which I have said. However, I and possibly other ABers will be very interested to know how you get on with matters.

Yeah knowing Microsofts crap products, where something usually goes wrong somewhere, I find thats probably best way to proceed.
Have 8.1 at the moment which I am not a great fan of either, those irritating bloody tiles never functioned properly from the day I bought comp. But apart from that most things work reasonably well so aint taking the chance of 10 screwing everything up. so 8.1 will do until I buy new comp in future.
The "If it aint broke, don't fix it" advice also best applied to driver updates Used one of these driver update progs, which actually caused some progs not to work properly! so I leave drivers alone now and only update when absolutely necessary

Last Friday's deadline was only for registering for the (so-called) 'upgrade' to Windows 10. Those who registered by that time can still download it now. (Indeed, due to Microsoft's limited server capacity, people who registered at the very last minute might still have to wait several days to download W10 anyway).
@Buenchico....I read this morning on an official Microsoft Internet Page that if one had not downloaded and actually installed W10 by Friday 29th July 2016, the end had come for registering and activation of the OS. Unfortunately, as often happens, I am unable now to find the page concerned.
Incidentally, my laptop is loaded with W7 and I have had a message to say that W10 is No longer available to me as a free download.. However, I also have an up-date message which suggests that it is.
The whole matter is highly confusing and is in keeping with Microsoft's Mess-ups.
