...On May 31st I switched my broadband from BT to Virgin.I kept a BT Email account for 60 days free and it was cancelled on July 31st. A note on this account says all activity on said Email address would cease on Sat 6th August. Well today is the 7th and plenty of junk emails are still coming through. Can anyone tell me why and what can or should I do about it.

It's the weekend, so it's likely that there's nobody around in BT to throw the switch to fully cancel your E/mail account.

If you wish to retain your BT Mail you will have to pay a regular fee to BT and have the account converted into a 'Premium Mail Account'. Click the following for some further information. :-

Hans.
Personally, I think £5.00 a month is rather expensive to retain an e/mail address. :-

Hans.
If you no longer use it just do not go there.

Thanks for that Hans, never thought it could just be the weekend, I kind of assumed 24/7 operation. £5 a month is way too much, I now have Gmail.
I switched from BT over three years ago and can still send/receive BT emails
Me too, Bertrum - about 7 years in my case.
